Blistered Maple Rocker

This is a very unusual looking wood. Occurring mainly in the sugar maple, the wood directly underneath the bark appears to have raised blister-like areas. This grain pattern does not really telegraph well through the bark, so it is discovered mainly at the sawmill when the logs are opened. The wood has a striking appearance when highly polished, with the typical warm tone of the maple.
