This bowl was turned from a solid block of Birdseye Maple. The first stage involves first turning a rough piece which leaves the bowl walls two or three times the final thickness. This allows for natural distortion during drying and some leeway for deciding the final shape. Once the wood is completely dry, it is returned to the lathe for final finishing. More on bowl turning.
The bowl is 12" in diameter and is quite suitable for serving a small salad.
