Although many of the raw burls are obtained locally, this one was purchased from a veneer dealer. They have worldwide access to many diverse sources of burl wood. Sometimes the pieces are too awkward a shape or somehow will not fit on the veneer slicing machine, so they are sold off by weight. It can be an expensive way to purchase wood but the quality is very high. This piece was imported from England. The depth was not sufficient to make a bowl so this was done simply as a way to show off the beautiful grain.
