This was a very interesting
project. The piece was designed around
two main criteria. Firstly, it
had to be constructed in such a way as to allow for easy
shipping across the country. And also the
clients supplied the Red Oak which had been logged many years
earlier on their grandfather's farm. My challenge was to design
and fashion a piece of furniture to their specifications using
wood that was not necessarily the size that I might have chosen.
The final size is 6' 10 " tall X 10" 6" wide.
Some creative thinking was required since the height of the
cabinet is almost 7 feet tall, but the longest boards available
were only 5 feet long. In the end a modular construction resolved
these things quite well.
The price of this unit was $3600. |
