This table was inspired by some of the most
intensely figured wood that I ever have come across. The sugar
maple occasionally exhibits the birdseye grain but this form
of blistering is much more rare. As well, this is an outstanding
example of the beauty so often hidden. The surface of the log
underneath the bark has a blistered look but from the outer
bark there is little if any sign of the interesting figure
of the wood. I chose walnut burl for the legs in order to contrast
the top both in colour and grain pattern.
